The Niche

It's been over two decades for me in this fraternity. With majors in Biology, people often asked what I was here for, specially with the Creative? Some thought I had gone berserk! It's a paradox though. But as far as talent goes Advertising is all encompassing . There are no bounds. I found my own freedom of expression here and persevered to stay against all odds. Especially, when I dared to Visualise with no academics in Commercial Art, much to the annoyance of the fellow artists. And mind you, this was during the cut-n-paste era, much before the advent of Computers in Graphic Arts. Starting of as a trainee, I took turns in various departments to get well versed with the nuances of the the trade. Creative indulgence being at the back of my mind, I took the plunge no sooner the first opportunity came my way. Having interacted with professionals over the years, I finally made Conceptualising my forte. My expertise lies in layout composition, colour sense, typography and the written word as well. With computer skills to my advantage, ideas come to fruition the way they are visualised.  More so, I nurture a holistic perspective towards Advertising as an art. For me Advertising is selling of an ‘idea’. An idea that is creative enough to sustain competition.
I have trodden a very unusual path before engaging myself with my present activity. After graduation, I opted for an Education Program in rural areas of Maharashtra. Teaching and learning went hand in hand in opening new frontiers and vistas to my overall development as an individual. These were my real growing years of being face to face with humanity at large. Interaction with people at the very grass root level taught me secrets of human psychology which no classroom could have ever taught me. Here I first learnt that literacy wasn't the criterion for creative expression but merely a channel to do so formidably. All work but no play or leisure with contemplation were the options open to me. I chose the later which I happened to see in the lives of the earthy and rugged people who performed their daily duties, struggled to make ends meet and yet managed to have a good night's sleep. I saw them live with ease, being connected with Nature and therefore in sync with Life better than their gullible counterparts living in the towns. Their simplicity and earthiness motivated me to discover my own creative urge which lurked for long. It was not so easy to influence them with new ideas or bring them out of their closet but at the same time very difficult to manipulate them once they were convinced, for they listened with their heart! I too did so on the way to my career. I preferred to be Creative, something I had always been passionate about. And for all the obvious reasons I chose the persuasive art of Advertising as my profession. Client brief well understood generates a creative idea for effective communication. This is what I believe promotion is all about. My effort is always to deliver the same, hopefully to you too!
